Most clients arrive at their first SMP session a little nervous and leave wondering why they waited so long. Here's exactly what happens when you book with SMP by Jack, based at Jenna McDonnell Salon in Newport, South Wales.
Before you sit in the chair
Everything starts with a free consultation — usually over WhatsApp with photos, or in person. Jack assesses your hair loss pattern, skin type and the look you want, and gives you a fixed quote with no obligation. If you go ahead, your first session begins with hairline design: the shape is mapped and drawn on, and nothing is tattooed until you've approved it in the mirror.
The treatment itself
The first session lays the foundation — a light, conservative pass that establishes the hairline and base density. It typically takes 2–3 hours. Most clients describe the sensation as mild discomfort rather than pain, noticeably easier than a traditional tattoo. You can go straight back to work the next day.
Sessions two and three, spaced 7–14 days apart, build density, perfect the blend into your existing hair, and add the final detailing that makes the result undetectable.
Aftercare and healing
Aftercare is simple: keep the scalp dry for the first few days, avoid heavy sweating and direct sun while it heals, and moisturise once settled. The pigment softens slightly during healing — this is normal and is exactly why the treatment is built over three sessions rather than one.
Clients travel to the Newport studio from Cardiff, Bristol, Abergavenny, Monmouth and across the Welsh Valleys. To ask a question or book a free consultation, message Jack on WhatsApp.
